No patents

A new way to organize medical research without patents

  • Creation of open source treatments without intellectual property.
  • Researchers are financially rewarded throughout the process of research, removing the need for IP
  • All solutions found within Etica are immediately available for anyone to use without patent restrictions
decentralised communities

Dencentralised communities researching together in an open source environment

Etica enables decentralised groups of people to cooperate in order to find open source cures for diseases without intellectual property

  • Open Source has already proven to be faster and more efficient in many other fields like Software development
  • New Economic System. Etica establishes a brand new economic system that finally makes open source medical research economically viable
  • Faster and more efficient. The protocol aims to transform the drug discovery process by applying open source to medical research

Open source communities

Malaria is a life-threatening disease caused by parasites that are transmitted to people through the bites of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes. The estimated number of malaria deaths stood at 405 000 in 2018.

Alzheimer’s disease is an irreversible, progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills, and, eventually, the ability to carry out the simplest tasks.

Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)

Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. Symptoms start gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand.

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. With diabetes, your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin it does make.

Frequency Asked Questions

How Etica can help me as a researcher ?

When you research on a specific disease, Etica enables you to connect with other researchers working on the same disease. You can access all the history of proposals concerning this disease. You are joining an open source community constantly sharing its results. When you find something or have something useful to publish, you can submit a proposal and get financially rewarded in matter of days. No need to fund raise and waste time asking people for their money to be able to research. All you need is finding interesting results so that you can submit proposals.

How Etica can help me as an individual seeking cure for a disease ?

If you are particularly concerned about a disease and you want to find a cure, Etica enables you to support research about this disease by voting with your Eticas. In fact Etica gives you the possibility to become active on the research process instead of passively wait for the industry to finally find something. Etica encourages you to gain knowledge so that you can vote better. With time, you will get more and more expertise and your votes will reflect that. By getting expertise not only you will make the network more relevant but you may start submitting proposals as well. This is what Etica is about, from passive and ignorant you will have become active and informed about the disease. This will lead to finding cures much faster than the current system and these cures will be open source without intellectual property.

Where can I interact with the protocol ?

In order to interact with the protocol, explorers are needed. The first explorer is available on etica.io. It lets you interact with the protocol, assess proposals, submit proposals and much more.

Why is the current model of intellectual property obsolete ?

The current model is based on the hegemony of intellectual property. The reason why this system needs intellectual property is because it is the counterpart of research investments. Without intellectual property, there would be no patent thus nobody would invest in research because there would be no financial incentive to do it. But with blockchain, we can create a neutral protocol that financially reward researchers without the need for intellectual property.

Does it really change something to find cures with open source as opposed to patented cures ?

It changes everything. An open source traitment let's anyone immediately use the results because there is no intellectual property. The price of such cures will be much lower as there will not be monopolies controlling the price through patents. Morevover it accelerates the process of discovering the cures because researchers are incentivized to share their results although the current model incentivizes them to hide their results from contestant entities.

Is it realistic to think anyone can participate ?

Anyone can participate but this doesn't mean everyone will participate. The incitement system discrourages people to vote if they are not skilled enough to assess proposals and identify the best ones. Even more important the voting system blocks the tokens of bad voters, when someone votes badly its Eticas are stucked on the contract thus less avaible for voting.
